This has been a wonderful year for gardening; almost everything that was planted came up from the ground, absolutely delicious! However, this fall, there was a very unusual occurrence, every single broccoli raab was chewed to the ground, two heads of lettuce, two heads of spinach, and all of the French green beans were annihilated along with the beautiful pansies that surround the raised beds.
Realizing that there was a thief hanging out, something had to be done! After spraying a Habanero Pepper spray that I concocted around the veggies, strategically placing dog/human hair (EVERYWHERE) and distributing deer and small animal repellant… where there was room to add something else …NOTHING WORKED! So, out came the field camera in hopes of catching the culprit; sadly, NO EVIDENCE! Then, one day, I noticed a friendly turtle strolling around the edge of the garden’s fence. I watched him for a few minutes as he tried and tried to get under the tightly stretched fence; and then, a light bulb went off! That’s the thief!!!
Unfortunately, I still have no idea where he got in but at least he’s not HUNGRY!
